Hungary’s immunity certificate to meet EU requirements
The digital version of the Hungarian immunity certificate will meet all European Union regulations on digital Covid-19 certificates by June 15, the prime minister’s chief of staff said on Thursday.
Gergely Gulyás told a regular press briefing that the digital format of the EU green card will be available by June 15.
The digital version of the Hungarian certificate, in line with EU regulations, will show the type of vaccine administered and the dates of the jabs, he added.
He said Hungary’s immunity certificate currently provided the largest freedom in Europe because agreements have been made with 11 countries about its acceptance.
Meanwhile, Romania has rated Hungary as a green zone country, he said.
All vaccines used in Hungary are safe
Although they show minor differences, all coronavirus vaccines distributed in Hungary are safe, and the government calls on all Hungarians to register and accept a vaccine, the prime minister’s chief of staff said on Thursday.
Gergely Gulyás told a regular press conference that of the nearly 3.7 million fully vaccinated Hungarians, over 8,100 have contracted Covid-19, and 524 of them have died.
So far, 54 percent of Hungarians have been inoculated, bringing the country to the cusp of herd immunity, Gulyás said.
Counting those who have gained immunity by recovering from the disease, immunity in the country may be as high as 65-70 percent, he added.
Hungary currently has a surplus of all vaccines, and those registering now will be able to get any of the jabs in a short time, he said.
Those who have received their jabs have the best protection possible against the virus, he said.
Meanwhile, the third wave seems to have subsided, and infection numbers are nearing those seen last summer, he said.
Based on its infection data, Hungary expects that EU countries will see it as “posing no risk at all”, he said.
EU countries are mandated to accept all vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and are at liberty to decide to accept others, Gulyas said.
Hungary has concluded agreements with several (non-EU) countries to accept all vaccines used in Hungary, including the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, which has been approved for emergency use by the WHO, and Russia’s Sputnik V jab, Gulyas said.
“Hungary expects near-total freedom of travel within the EU, unless infection rates and low inoculation numbers in other countries raise cause for concern,” Gulyás said.
Meanwhile, Hungary will use part of its surplus vaccine stock to inoculate Transcarpathia Hungarians, who are the only Hungarian community across the borders without access to the vaccine, he said.
Regarding economic performance, Gulyas said that Hungary’s economy, which contracted by 4.9-5 percent in 2020, was among the best-performing EU member states after the coronavirus pandemic.
The government is working to help the economy rebound from the economic fallout as soon as this year, Gulyas said. Restarting the economy is a key milestone in leaving coronavirus-related difficulties behind, he said.
The government will announce several measures to that end in the coming period, he said.
One of those steps will be to allocate a further 3.8 billion forints (EUR 11.0m) for reconstructing minor roads in small localities, and to fund local authorities’ tenders for revamping roads and sidewalks with a further 20 billion forints, he said.
Local infrastructure developments are among the key projects in the government’s bid to relaunch the economy, he said, adding that bidders for the tenders included both pro-government and opposition councils.
Government spokeswoman Alexandra Szentkiralyi said that starting next week, government pressers will be held in person rather than online.

This article doesn’t say all vaccines used in Hungary will be acceptable.
This won’t be able to be used by the hundreds (thousands?) of expats living in Hungary who for one reason or another have been vaccinated but do not have a TAJ number, as they cannot use the current EESZT app.
Bernard Shaw or BS for short.
If you have residential Status you will have a TAJ number. I’m an expat and I live here and have an immunity card with my passport number on it. What are you not doing?
Valid and FACTUAL comments George – Sorry – Bernard Shaw ///

What about us who have had the Sputnik? Can we travel within Europe?
The Russian and the Chinese vaccines – taken by citizens of Hungary – against European Union approval for Human vaccination and immunization – that is the Government of Hungary’s – CHALLENGE – to get authority for citizens to Travel.
This diplomatic argument within the member country’s of the European Union – the Power Players, it does appear, it is going to be a long draw out “brawl” and sadly for us Hungarian citizens Immunized with the Russian or Chinese vaccine – we could become the innocent victims of this European Union “blame and shame” game that continues to be heaped on Hungary.
The Hungarian Government under the “steely” leadership of Prime Minister – Victor Orban – went out on a limb – ruffled feathers – rebelled against the rank and file or proceduralization of bureaucratic one sided rhetoric – that is the “jargon” – that comes out of Brussels, and they appear to not be of interest “giving ground” nor credit for the vaccination/immunization results that continue to be achieved in Hungary.
We the innocent citizens of Hungary, those of us who intend to travel, we are, to a large degree, being made “pawns” – in this European Union “brawl” caught in the middle somewhat and the finding of a “middle ground” – does appear that it will not to be resolved in the immediate Future.
Victor Orban – like a “street fighter” or “junk yard dog” – brilliant and gifted politician – that he continues to display, will prevail – to exhibit, through a “shame and blame” – Factual based argument – the WRONGS – of the European Union – in its attitude and treatment of Hungary – in its Vaccination and Immunization procedures.
“Gergely Gulyás told a regular press conference that of the nearly 3.7 million fully vaccinated Hungarians, over 8,100 have contracted Covid-19, and 524 of them have died”.
Is the above true? That’s quite a big number. I wonder which vaccines the people had been given.
I also noticed on a survey conducted for Europe that the crisis had impacted personal income levels, Hungary was one of the eight countries mentioned where citizens are affected.
Albert Andrew – I have told you here, online, how to get the Taj card irrespective. Oi, that is an oink. The system here for communicating with other health system is very sick. 6 months of battling with them, was my case, even though I pay a lot of tax here, live her and my employees all had Taj numbers – which I pay for!!!! Thank god I use private health care. The national system is rubbish.
