Ice trapped a 33-year-old man forever and others also fell into the freezing water – VIDEO

Ice is a treacherous thing, but people keep underestimating it. Video shows how a crowd of people walk on the frozen Balaton and some end up in the freezing water. Some people, however, had never come back from under the ice; an experienced diver recently drowned under the prison of ice.
Bloodcurdling news struck a family, when 33-year-old Bence H., who was an extreme diver, went under the ice in a quarry lake in Apc and never came back to the surface again. Bors interviewed Bence’s friends.
They said that he was an extremely experienced diver who had experience diving in many waters around the world and has dived in freezing waters before.
His friends said that Bence H. tried to dive under the ice in the Széleskő quarry lake near Apc in Heves county on a Sunday afternoon, as he had done countless times before. No one thought anything could go wrong as Bence had a lot of experience for his young age, having dived all over the Earth in seas, oceans, and frosty waters. But something went awry this time. Bence H. descended into the water through the ice hole he made himself, but he never surfaced again, and the freezing waters took their victim. His friends, family, acquaintances and sports mates were shocked by hearing the news.

“It would have been an extreme sport for many people, but Bence moved in the water like a normal person moved on land. It was his second home,” – one of the man’s acquaintances told Bors.
Although he was doing extreme diving by ordinary people’s standards, his acquaintances stressed that Bence was never irresponsible: “He was never careless, he always paid attention, and he knew the dangers involved. That is why we do not understand what might have happened that day. He adds that an eyewitness allegedly saw Bence on the shore, in the company of a girl. Hence did not take a rope either anyone to safeguard him. People watched anxiously from the shore.”

Perhaps there needs to be education around ice safety. Such as, don’t go onto ice if it is not clean blue & as thick as your father’s shoes are long. You need to have -8C temps for about 3 weeks before ice is really safe & strong for people to go onto it. From beneath, the hole that is cut thru disappears as you lose your directional bearings & create extra movement of the water.
When I lived & worked doing construction in Nunavut in -40C most of the winter we lost people who had lived & hunted there for generations. Everyone knows tht you never go out on ice alone, you never swim alone. But people do it & put others thru terrible trauma & loss.
I hope that in Hungary everyone who does extreme sport must buy special insurance to cover the costs of their rescues, their medical treatments, or searches for their bodies. That way the state will not have to go after the surviving families to get compensation. Taxpayers should never have to pay for stupidity or risk-taking activities’ bad results. They certainly do not benefit from the adulations of good results tht such people attain.
