India’s Independence Day celebrated in Budapest with mesmerizing cultural program – PHOTOS

The Embassy of India in Budapest commemorated the 79th Independence Day of India on 15 August 2025 with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. As part of the celebrations, the Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre (ASCC) organised an enthralling cultural program at its auditorium.
The members of the Indian community, friends of India in Hungary, and dignitaries gathered to witness the flag hoisting ceremony and the cultural event. The celebrations began with the hoisting of the national flag by Chargé d’Affaires Mr. Praveen Kumar, followed by the rendition of the national anthem.

The cultural program by ASCC showcased the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India through an array of classical, folk and contemporary performances. ASCC’s Odissi dance teacher, Mr. Aniruddha Das, along with students and the members of the Indian community, took part in the performances.

Before the start of the cultural segment, Chargé d’Affaires Mr. Kumar read out the speech delivered by the Hon’ble President of India. In his remarks, he reflected on India’s remarkable journey since independence, expressed appreciation for the contributions of the Indian community, and extended heartfelt thanks to all attendees for their enthusiastic participation.

He also underscored the vital role played by the Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre in promoting India’s rich cultural heritage, fostering dialogue, and enhancing mutual understanding between India and Hungary. The Centre stands as a key pillar of cultural diplomacy and continues to inspire through its work.

The Independence Day celebrations highlighted the enduring spirit of Indian democracy and the rich cultural mosaic that defines the nation.
