Interior ministry: Western Europeans move to Hungary because of migrants
Because of the migration pressure, the number of people coming from western Europe to settle in Hungary has gone up between 20 and 40 percent over the past several years, the interior ministry’s parliamentary state secretary said at a farewell ceremony for a police contingent in Budapest on Tuesday.
Since 2015, the number of those coming to Hungary from Belgium has increased by 47 percent, from Italy by 45 percent, from the Netherlands by 43 percent, from Spain by 40 percent, from Switzerland 28 percent, from Austria 25 percent, from Britain by 22 percent and from Germany and France 20 percent, respectively, Bence Rétvári said. Their motivation was to find security and safe conditions in public domains, he said.
Rétvári addressed the ceremony for the next contingent of Hungarian police officers dispatched to serve in Serbia in partnership with their local and Austrian colleagues, noting that “their task is becoming more difficult and more important as they are protecting the EU, and Hungary, against the increasing pressure posed by migration”.
The state secretary noted that he had visited the Hungarian contingent in Serbia last year and had met officers serving on their 8th mission there. “Last year, close to 400 Hungarian officers served on the missions,” Rétvári said.

Foreigners come here because real estate is cheap, it is safe (like back home, for them) and flight connections easy. They are not fleeing their local country. And they are not coming because they love Hungarians, want to learn the language, engage in local customs …
Yup, 100%. I’m one of them.
Or perhaps it’s because Hungary is a really cheap place to live? These people might be ordinary pensioners in their home country, in Hungary they are the wealthy elite. Too bad for the Hungarians who will now be their house servants.
Another made up comment by a Fidesz politician. These are retirees. Precious few go to Hungary to work unless they are exploited guest workers from third world countries. People leave Hungary to find work. Retirees have been coming to Hungary for decades. The foremost factors invariably are economic (cheaper real estate) and sometimes climate. Not in a million years would I leave Canada to permanently settle in Orbanistan with Putin’s army next door. Hungary is so bad that Fidesz politicians are desperate to create any kind of story to puff their country up. Industry is in the toilet, inflation is far above the EU average and public services are falling apart.
Larry
Canadians can hardly wait for another election, to rid the country of the Trudeau dictatorship. A couple of days ago a reporter was arrested by the RCMP for asking questions of the deputy prime minister. The reporter was freed but this does not bode well for the future of the country.
Ah Mariavontheresa the difference is that Canadians can get rid of a government if they don’t like it. We have opposition parties that get national publicity and plenty of television air-time. Hungary has become a one-party state that has systematically shut out opposition parties from media. Marki-Zay got five minutes on national television and of course there never is any televised leadership debate. Hungary is a dictatorship. The Americans got it right when they put a two term limit for presidents. Anyone in power for more than eight or nine years is past their best before date and most often into unethical behaviour.
Hungarians can also change the government. Unfortunately, the alternative or opposition is a socialist, pro EU and globalist party. Hungary had enough of communism, socialism and foreign dictatorship.
It is time for you Larry and others to accept the fact that Hungarians actually like the FIDESZ Government and Prime Minister Orban. The Hungarian people have the right to determine their own fate and choose their own pro nationalist government.
Wish Canada had a Prime Minister that put the welfare of Canadians first.
