Is blood plasma therapy a success in curing COVID-19?
Some COVID-19 patients have been treated with the blood plasma of people who have already recovered from the virus in Hungary. Their condition is encouraging.
The first treatment was done by the Southern Pest Hospital Center in cooperation with the National Center of Public Health, according to Ferenc Jakab, the head of the virology research group of the János Szentágothai Research Center, reported Origo.
The virology research group is currently collecting and testing possible donor samples. The donors not only have to pass all the health and laboratory requirements of a regular blood donation but need to produce a certain amount of antibodies as well.
The research so far shows that those who got through the new coronavirus with minimal or no symptoms produced fewer antibodies than those who had moderate or severe symptoms.
The virology research group is currently testing over 300 possible agents,” said Ferenc Jakab, he also added that two of the agents could step into the phase of clinical testing. We have previously explained the exact process of clinical testing.
