Jobbik queries govt on “plans” to make alcohol trade state monopoly
Budapest, January 21 (MTI) – The radical nationalist Jobbik party has queried the government about whether it plans to make the distribution of alcoholic beverages a state monopoly.
Jobbik MP Gyorgy Szilagyi told a press conference on Thursday that an amendment to the excise act was on the agenda of parliament. He insisted that the bill could pave the way for a state monopoly over the alcohol trade with the introduction of “national liquor stores” similar to state tobacco shops.
Szilagyi likened the idea to “America of the 1920’s” in which the alcohol trade is controlled by “Al Capones of Fidesz”.
