Hungarian head of the European Committee of Regions Kata Tüttő awarded Kyiv mayor

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has been awarded the Mayor Pawel Adamowicz Award of the European Committee of Regions, handed over by Kata Tüttő, the recently elected president of the committee, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said on Friday.

The award named after the mayor of Gdansk murdered in 2019 is given to politicians in local politics who stand up for freedom, solidarity and equality, Karácsony said on Facebook.

“With its three-year freedom fight, Ukraine is protecting the whole of Europe as well as itself. The ideals holding Europe together: freedom, dignity and democracy. Ukraine has done far more for us than we have done for Ukraine,” Karácsony said.

“Standing by Ukraine is a matter of principle, not of calculation,” Karácsony added.
