Kosovan nationals get suspended jail terms for damaging Hungary border fence
A Szeged court on Friday sentenced two Kosovan nationals to suspended prison terms for breaching Hungary’s border and damaging the border fence, the court’s spokeswoman said.
In a non-binding ruling, the defendants were each given 18-month prison terms, suspended for four years, Erika Pragai Juhász said.
Under the same ruling, after serving their sentence, they would be expelled from the country for 3 years and 2 months.
The two 19-year-old men damaged the fence near the border town of Röszke late on Tuesday. They cut 40-50 cm wide openings into both the inner and outer fence through which they snuck across the border. They were later apprehended by police near the border.
