Last year 14,000 non-EU foreigners held work permits in Hungary
Budapest, June 12 (MTI) – At the end of last year some 14,000 foreigners from non-European Union countries held valid work permits in Hungary, daily Nepszabadsag said citing national employment office figures on Friday.
A year earlier, the number stood at 19,000 and ten years earlier, at the end of 2003, it was 57,000, the paper added. The significant drop from 2003 resulted from Hungary’s EU accession in the following year, but no explanation has been found for the drop in 2014, the paper added.
According to national employment office figures, some 50,000 EU citizens were working in Hungary at the end of 2013 and the total number of foreign workers represented slightly more than 1.5 percent of the workforce, the paper said.
