Lego plant expansion to boost headcount by 1,600
Budapest, January 15 (MTI) – Danish toymaker Lego’s 30 billion forint (EUR 95.3m) investment will boost the headcount of its Nyiregyhaza factory in eastern Hungary by 1,600, Hungary’s foreign minister said on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference on the company’s expansion plans, Peter Szijjarto said the Hungarian government would contribute 4.4 billion forints to the investment.
The minister said Danish companies employ more than 10,000 people in Hungary, adding that Denmark is Hungary’s 25th largest trading partner. He said Lego and other foreign companies’ investments in Hungary had demonstrated that “the Hungarian model is working” and that job creation and economic growth is possible alongside fiscal discipline.
Plant manager Jesper Hassellund Mikkelsen, who also serves as senior vice-president of Europe Moulding and Europe DUPLO at Lego, said the investment would increase the size of the Nyiregyhaza company from 120,000 sqm to 250,000 sqm. More than 700 new machines will be installed and packaging capacity will also be expanded. He said Lego is convinced that Hungary and specifically Nyiregyhaza is the right place for expansion and development as European markets are near and the workforce needs of the company are met.
