LEGO to make a game based on the idea of a 16-year-old Hungarian boy
The popular Danish toy manufacturer is making an official set to be sold worldwide based on a young Hungarian boy’s idea. This is the second time that a Hungarian’s design wins the famous online competition.
According to 24.hu, Donát Fehérvári’s idea was revealed to be the winner of the LEGO Ideas competition named We love sports! on LEGO CON, an event held for the first time this year. Competitors could upload their sports-related ideas from December 2020 to February 2021.
LEGO Ideas is a website where anyone can submit their ideas that can then become official LEGO kits with a bit of luck and support. If the submitted work gets 10,000 supporting votes from registered users within a given period of time, it is a winner, and LEGO will consider whether it is worthwhile to design a commercially available set from the submitted idea.

Donát designed a foosball table from LEGO parts that you can actually play with, and he won both the professional jury’s and the audience’s vote.
He has not only won the competition, but the Danish company has also decided to launch an official set within the LEGO Ideas product family, based on Donát’s idea. The set will be designed by the company’s designers based on the submitted idea. They usually change the design in order to perfectly comply with the company’s standards, for example, considering factors like the building experience.
Among other benefits, the idea’s designer receives 10 sets of the final product and 1% of the net income from the commercially available set.
Donát Fehérvári, however, is not the first Hungarian artist to create an official LEGO set.
The company previously found one of Máté Szabó‘s designs worthwhile to bring to life.
24.hu reports that Máté Szabó’s second idea, a set called Steamboat Willie, which is inspired by the first movie appearance of Mickey Mouse, won the competition in 2018. Máté graduated from the Moholy-Nagy University of Arts as an animation designer and has submitted several ideas to the website.
It was an incredible experience for Máté to see his work realised in LEGO’s stores, and besides the significant revenue of the 1% of sold products, he was also able to travel around the globe as LEGO and Disney organised a round-the-world trip for the release of the set. He visited Disneyland in Shanghai, Beijing, Orlando, and Paris, giving autographs and meeting enthusiastic collectors, and the tour ended in Budapest.
