LIBE delegation head: Reservations from 2018 against Hungary still persist
Reservations made in terms of Hungary in 2018 mostly persist, the head of a fact-finding delegation of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) said on Friday.
Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield, of the Greens-European Free Alliance group, told a press conference that some of the people the delegation met during its three-day visit to Hungary said that certain aspects of the rule of law had deteriorated in the country over the recent period. The pieces of information collected in Hungary, however, have to be assessed in detail and incorporated into a report to be submitted for a vote by the EP, she said. The report will become the EP’s own once the body has approved it, she added.
The members of the LIBE delegation held consultations with over a hundred people, and heard many opinions and political views, Delbos-Corfield said.
She said that all seven groups of the EP were represented in the delegation in order to guarantee diversity in line with EP regulations.
Hungarian FM Péter Szijjártó: Monopolising democracy is ‘antidemocratic’
Delbos-Corfield said that the visit had been planned since 2019 but postponed last spring because of the coronavirus pandemic.
In response to a question, she said the main areas of review included the independence of the judiciary, media diversity, the enforcement of fundamental rights, freedom of education and the proper operation of parliament.
During the visit, the delegation met representatives of the judiciary, media, civil organisations, science, culture and opposition parties, the mayor of Budapest, as well as the ministers of justice and the interior, she said.

Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield would be perfect for Soviet Union. Dishonest
Why let her in? the damaging report was probably written before this woman ever set foot in Hungary.
Gergely Gulyás: “EU is pursuing the principle, which is well known from the time of the Soviet Union” and “pursuing the principle that the law is a servant to politics, which is well known to us from the time of the Soviet Union”.
This explains it all but it takes an open mind and some historical perspective to comprehend it. The EU bureaucrats don’t have it. Not this idiot.
Tired of the EU delegations nonsense. 1. In the US, both Appeal Court and Supreme Court judges are appointed by the president and confirmed by the senate. Usually, judges are confirmed when both the senate and president when represent the same party. There is no difference in Hungary, the ruling party appoints judges. Even though judges are appointed by ruling administrations, judgements are made on the basis of the Constitutions. .2. There is freedom of the press. No capitalist government supports failing media. In the US, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, NYT and Washington Post are privately owned. They are all left wing democrat supporters. Fox news, however, also privately owned, is a right wing media. Fox is the most watched media. In spite of being conservative, it tells the truth. There is no difference in media in Hungary. If left wing, lying media, had a market, they would be popular and people would buy it. The owners of the media determine the content. 3. The EU is complaining that Hungary does not promote LGBT. Why does LGBT has to be promoted, is it not a genetic determination? At the same time, the rest of the EU stopped protecting families and the Judeo-Christian philosophy. That is the reason for the chaos in Western EU. 4. Freedom in education is another sore EU point. Hungary, a fairly poor country, already provides free university education. However, it does not have the money to spend on useless subject e.g. gender studies. Hungary needs, and have needed, scientists, doctors, engineers and well qualified teachers. Hungary should be commended for money well spent. 5. The Children Protection Law is not an anti LGBT Law. It is there to protect children from pedophilia and brainwashing. It should be accepted on face value. There is a strong law against persecuting LGBT members. 6. All sovereign countries have the right to determine who lives in their country. It would be the worst policy decision to allow large number of illegal aliens, who are hundreds of years behind in social evolution. Sharia law is not acceptable in civilized countries. Public execution, cutting of limbs is barbaric. Women in those countries are treated as possessions. Muslims in the EU have not been able to assimilate. Rape, murder and terrorism in on the rise in EU countries. Other EU countries realized their mistake and closed borders, e.g. Denmark, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Greece as well as the V4. 7. The most important act of the FIDESZ government is the national consultation. All government should be interested in the opinion of the citizens. The questionnaire is filled out privately. No other EU government has the nerve to ask how the citizens feel about a subject. The parliament members are elected and once in power, they ignore the electorate. Hungary should be commended for being the first populous government that truly represent the citizens.
Hungary is one of the few democratic countries left, where the government’s main interest is the welfare of its citizens.
