LMP wants central bank to help compensate Questor victims

Budapest, November 18 (MTI) – The green opposition LMP wants the central bank to participate in compensating the victims of failed brokerage Quaestor.

Lawmaker Erzsebet Schmuck told a press conference on Wednesday that the central bank had failed to fulfil its supervisory tasks and it should therefore bear some responsibility in the compensation of victims. She suggested establishing a fund for compensation financed from central bank’s profits.

She cited Tuesday’s top court ruling voiding sections of the law on Quaestor and said it was obvious that the law supported by the ruling majority would fail because it differentiated between victims based on a political bias. She cited links between former head of the brokerage Csaba Tarsoly and the ruling parties.
