Local Elections – Over 8,000 Mayoral Candidates Fielded for October Election
(MTI) – Local election offices registered 8,142 candidates for mayor running in the upcoming municipal elections until the Friday midnight deadline.
According to information from the National Election Office, 79 percent of the candidates are running as independent.
As for local council members, a total 35,907 candidates have been registered for Hungary’s 3,177 towns and cities – the registration of 18 nominees in three villages is still pending, while in two villages there will be no election in lack of nominees.
Seven candidates are running for Budapest mayor in the election set for October 12.
