Hungarian citizenship at risk for dual citizens: new bill about suspension, expulsion
A new bill submitted by PM Orbán’s ruling Fidesz would enable authorities to suspend the Hungarian citizenship of dual citizens for years. Those “losing their Hungarian citizenship for a while” could be forced out of the country in 72 hours. Since Orbán’s parties have a supermajority in the Hungarian National Assembly, you can take it for granted that the bill will soon become law.
Dual citizens may lose their Hungarian citizenship for 10 years
According to Szabad Európa, János Halász, an MP of Fidesz, submitted the relevant bill on Tuesday night, bearing the name “suspension of the Hungarian citizenship”. PM Orbán highlighted the need for such a bill in his 15 March speech, mentioning “bugs” surviving the winter and working against the “Hungarian sovereignty”.
Importantly, all EU citizens and the citizens of the European Economic Area (Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Norway) are exempted. All other nationals can only lose their Hungarian citizenship for a maximum of ten years if they are a threat to Hungary’s public order or national security.
The specific reasons for suspension are the following:
- working in the military or public services branch of another country;
- operating in favour of a foreign power or institution in a manner incompatible with Hungarian citizenship;
- leaving Hungary’s territory to join a terrorist group;
- being convicted by a Hungarian court for crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, apartheid, violent alteration of the constitutional order, conspiracy against the constitutional order, treason, disloyalty, supporting the enemy, espionage, financing acts of terrorism, or terrorism;
The Hungarian government expects citizens to report each other
Interestingly, everybody can report persons whose citizenship should be suspended for the reasons above, and authorities will not even inform the person involved that an investigation is underway. The affected party may file an appeal against the suspension order within thirty days, which must be forwarded to the Kúria (Hungary’s Supreme Court) by the competent minister within fifteen days. The third-instance judicial body has forty-five days to uphold or annul the minister’s decision.
However, when the sentence comes into effect, authorities can force the person out of the country in 72 hours. Therefore, they may have to wait for the decision of the Kúria abroad.
Unique law
Since Orbán’s Fidesz and allied KDNP have a supermajority in the Hungarian parliament, the bill will surely become law soon. The Hungarian media wondered before who might be among the first targets and agreed that it might be entrepreneur and philanthropist George Soros, who has been associated with supporting illegal migration in government communication for years.
Such a law is unique in the world, but it can become a precedent.

Some of the items covered make a lot of sense. The troubling part is expecting Hungarians to report on each other. Now I was born in the US. My mother and Father both came from Hungary. They told me stories like this from WW2 and thru out the communist era. Watch out. Dont go back down that road.

I am one of those “dual citizens”. Hungarian sovereignty is beyond questioning. It is a vital part of what I swore to uphold as a new Hungarian citizen. Fidesz sovereignty is NOT. The ruling government needs to accept that party affiliation has nothing to do with being a loyal citizen.
Way back in 1852 Lajos Kossuth spoke to a gathering of US congressmen at dinner. Kossuth’s speech was full of flowery language and he spoke of many things, but the essence of his speech was, in his words, “With self-government is freedom, and with freedom is justice and patriotism. With centralization is ambition, and with ambition dwells despotism”. Those are not only gallant words, but filled with insight. Our Prime Minister would do well to listen to Lajos Kossuth. Hungary is not threatened by external forces. It is threatened by a lust for centralized, absolute power from within.

Hungary, through Orban and his Fidesz Government – AGAIN – will pay a HEFTY price for this IDIOTIC “for consideration” citizenship change Policy.
Residence Permit status individuals, from America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand – the “Culling” process being effected by the Orban led Fidesz Government, numbers with years of residency under this status in Hungary, numbers being Self Funded retirees – of no voting rights in National Elections, taking NOTHING for FREE from the Hungarian Government.
The MASS number holders of Residence Permit Cards – are passport holders from countrys, the country of there birth being DEMOCRATIC country’s or country’s – that in principle embrace / support DEMOCRACY – – they are being TOLD to leave, at the expiration of there present (2) two year Residence Permit Cards – there application to re-new stay and live or work in Hungary – are not or will not be renewed.
Hungary – the Orban Government under there change of laws to the Immigration / Migration Policies of Hungary, through Orban and his Governments ability to “Rule by Decree” – being told to LEAVE Hungary that you NO longer qualify under the status of being approved a Residence Permit Card.
These effected thousands of people, numbers property titled owners, from countrys of DEMOCRACY or “aligned” in Government to DEMOCRACY – there lives are being SHATTERED by this Orban – Fidesz Governments policy’s that are DISCRIMITARY.
Do they BREAK European Union Law in relation to Immigration / Migration – the catagory in Hungary being a Residence Permit Card holder ?
YES they DO and “watch this space” as the European Union will COMMENT in the immediate near FUTURE – RIGHTFULLY.
The Foreign Ministers & Governments – Prime Ministers and President – of the individuals being “Culled” by the Orban led Fidesz Government – in DETAIL they ALL have been COMMUNICATED with in regards to this “Culling” – this act of DISCRIMINATION – attack again by this Orban led Fidesz Government on DEMOCRACY – or those “aligned” favourable to DEMOCRACY.
Orban – his tyrannical leadership worsening – that GROWS from Europe, the European Union, countrys of the Global World of DEMOCRACY – the mounting PRESSURIZATION on Orban & his Fidesz Government – will eventuate sooner than later – in a HUMONGOUS hefty price that will FALL rightfully on Hungary – through the name of Victor Mihaly. 1 of the points is interesting to me. I have seen that in various countries vile women & men who have left their homeland to go & join in terrorist groups to commit crimes at some point want taxpayers ‘back home’ to send agents, military, planes to bring them back to the very people that they shit on when they turned their backs on the culture that educated & cared for them, their other family members. So making sure that they lose their citizenship rights is a big win for Hungary, the taxpayers.
There will always be liberals who pay for and fight for the rights of such degenerate people who eventually miss the safety and benefits of the very culture/country that they have foresaken.
