A lost generation: 660,000 Gaza children remain out of school

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) sounded the alarm on Saturday over the fate of education in Gaza, warning that more than 660,000 children have been deprived of schooling for a third consecutive year as Israel’s devastating war nears the two-year mark.

“The war in Gaza is a war on children, and it must stop. Children must be protected at all times,” UNRWA said in a statement, cautioning that the enclave’s youth are at risk of becoming a “lost generation.” While schools in the occupied West Bank are set to reopen on 1 September, Gaza’s classrooms remain shuttered.

The Palestinian Education Ministry said around 700,000 students in the enclave have seen their schooling suspended under bombardment, with more than 70,000 unable to take high school exams for two consecutive years.

According to ministry data,

Israeli attacks since October 2023 have killed at least 17,000 school students and more than 1,200 university students in Gaza, while injuring tens of thousands more.

In the occupied West Bank, dozens of students have also been killed, wounded or detained by Israeli forces during the same period. The toll has extended to teachers and academic staff. Nearly 1,000 education workers have been killed in Gaza, and thousands more injured or detained across the Palestinian territories.

Israel has killed over 63,400 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

  1. Throughout human history, people sometimes took enormous risks and made unfathomable sacrifices: participating in protests, uprisings, revolutions, wars… Why? So their kids would not have to; so their kids would have a better life than they did.

Meanwhile, these cockroaches willfully sacrifice not themselves but their own children. They deliberately put their children in harm’s way, in full knowledge they are likely to get hurt. They are absolute lunatics.

On 6 October 2023 Gaza was blossoming. Market stalls were heaving with produce. There were fancy beachfront resorts. Many people were living in swanky residential buildings, not unlike Amman or Muscat.

They had a choice to not do what they did the following day. But they did it.

They then had a choice, at any point since, to release the hostages, including babies. They did not. And still do not.

So screw them. Screw them all.

Golda Meir was right: Peace will only come when they start loving their kids more than they hate ours. In fact, scratch the last part of that sentence.

    • Again idiot Steiner tries to show his knowledge in this topic. But as usual he shows his idiotness and ignroance to the longest imperial colony and occupation exist on planet earth in the 21st centruy.

Steiener did not know that “Open-Air Prison”, This term was used for years by numerous human rights organizations (Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, B’Tselem) and UN officials to describe Gaza. The vast majority of the 2.3 million people, over half of whom are children, could not leave.

Idiot Steiner didnt know that Israel controlled all but one border crossing (Rafah). Exit permits for Gazans for work, medical care, or education were extremely rare and difficult to obtain.

Idiot Steiner didnt know that the blockade deliberately restricted the flow of goods, crippling the economy and making “flourishing” impossible.

Idiot Steiner didnt know that Israel used a “caloric count” to restrict food imports to a level that would avoid malnutrition but not allow for a thriving economy or food sovereignty. This was detailed in a 2012 UN report.

Idiot Steiner didnt know that electricity was severely limited, with power cuts of 12-20 hours per day being the norm for years.

Idiot Steiner didnt know that Gaza International Airport Opened in 1998 as a symbol of hope, it was completely destroyed by Israeli airstrikes in 2001 during the Second Intifada and was never allowed to be rebuilt. Its runway was bulldozed. This eliminated direct air access to the outside world.

Idiot Steiner didnt know that Gaza has never been allowed to have a functioning seaport. Plans for a port, which would have allowed for direct trade, were repeatedly blocked by Israel citing security concerns. The small fishing harbor was subject to extreme restrictions, with Israel enforcing a narrow fishing limit, crippling the fishing industry and making deep-water trade impossible.

Idiot Steiner didnt know that One of the highest unemployment rates in the world IS IN GAZA, consistently over 40-50%, and over 60% for youth. A “flourishing” economy does not have such rates.

Idiot Steiner didnt know that Over 96% of Gaza’s aquifer water was undrinkable. People relied on expensive desalinated water from private vendors.

Idiot Steiner didnt know that Over 80% of the population depended on international humanitarian aid for basic survival.

All of That and still Steiner thinks he found out the problem and he know the solution.

May the curse of God be upon you and your kind, as you deserve.

  2. This conflict shows that in the 21st century it is possible for the Western world to sit on its’ hands while a state that was attached to this Western association engages in the murder of tens of thousands of civilians. The past century of Jewish history and the history of that region is obviously complex. Unfortunately “Never Again” does not apply to non-Jews.
