The Verdi union has instigated a warning strike among Lufthansa ground handling staff, which also affects Hungary.
Lufthansa has confirmed that the Verdi union’s strike, affecting ground handlers at airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf, commencing from 4.00 a.m. on Wednesday until 7.10. a.m. on Thursday, will significantly disrupt flight schedules.
On the 7th and 8th of February, only 10-20 percent of German airline flights are expected to operate. Consequently, Lufthansa has cancelled all flights to Budapest scheduled for Wednesday.
According to Budapest Airport’s flight information system, Lufthansa has scrapped all flights connecting Frankfurt and Munich with Budapest on Wednesday.
Affected passengers have been duly informed via email or the mobile app, offering complimentary rebooking and vouchers redeemable for train tickets on domestic routes. Passengers holding tickets for cancelled flights are advised against proceeding to the airports, as customer service desks will remain unmanned due to the strike.
This walkout stems from collective bargaining involving approximately 25,000 ground staff across Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services, Lufthansa Engineering, Operational Services and affiliated companies. The union contends that thus far, the employer has failed to table a satisfactory proposal. The forthcoming negotiations are scheduled for the 12th of February, as reported by airportal.hu.
