A man killed his stepson by shooting five bullets at him in December 2017, but fate took an interesting turn. Now, the murderer from Germany is terminally ill in a Hungarian prison.
According to Borsonline, the 53-year-old man of Turkish origins already had cancer 1.5 years ago, when the Austrian police handed him over to Hungary. His condition did not improve at all, as metastases developed throughout his body. By now, he has come to terms with his impending death.
“He has medical documents stating that he does not have to leave his bed and can skip walks, too, due to his condition. He is in a lot of pain. Therefore, he does not like to leave his bed and spends most of his time there. At first, he was reprimanded for this, but the claims were later withdrawn,” dr. Tamás Halász, the defence attorney of the man convicted of premeditated manslaughter and firearm-abuse, told Bors.
At the moment, the man with long white hair is kept in prison in Szeged. However, he is regularly taken to medical check-ups in the prison-hospital in Tököl.
The man who dealt with a family quarrel in such a drastic way was sentenced to life imprisonment in the court of the first instance. This means that he could get out on probation in 30 years the earliest. He is expelled from the country for 10 years, too.
“Our goal is to get him fixed-term imprisonment in the appeal court. He would like to spend his sentence in Germany because of the adequate treatment there. However, right now, the laws prevent him from going there as he was sentenced to life imprisonment,” said the lawyer.
The 53-year-old man met his Bulgarian victim years earlier. He helped him move to Austria, helped him get a job, and lent him some money. He did not get the money back, and the conflict turned bloody. The defence attorney claimed that several personal issues were in the background.
“My client met the victim’s father a long time ago, in a Bulgarian hospital. They became good friends and often vacationed in each other’s home. As a favour, he let his friend’s son move to him to Austria.
He took him in, helped him get a job, and regarded him as a son. Soon, the young man’s wife also moved there. However, when my client’s illness came to light, they moved away and completely turned away from him.
Just an example: they promised that their first-born child would be named after him, but this did not happen, either,” dr. Tamás Halász explained.
According to the indictment, when the accused learnt that the victim was going home, he decided to go after him and kill him. However, the accused insists that he did not plan the murder. In any case, we know that the victim stopped at the M5’s Csengele stop with a colleague, and they fell asleep there. The accused, gun in hand, knocked on the driver’s window. The Bulgarian man woke up, recognised the man, and tried to drive away. He could not get away, however, and could not avoid the gunshots. Five bullets hit him, and he died.
