Magyar: Hungary heading towards demographic catastrophe
Hungary is heading towards a demographic catastrophe if nothing changes, the head of the opposition Tisza party said on Monday.
In a statement, Péter Magyar asked: “If Hungary indeed has a family-friendly government, why is it that this year saw the lowest number of births in the last sixty years?”
“Why are they closing down maternity wards in the countryside? … Why are they destroying education? … Why is every other young person thinking about leaving their country? Why has the government not built any homes available for rent over the past 14 years?… Why don’t single parents and families raising sick children receive real support? Why is the family allowance 12,000 forints (EUR 30) since 2008?” Magyar added.
He said the main priority of the Tisza government would be to revitalise health care and education, as well as “to offer real support to Hungarian families”, with a significant increase in the family allowance, offering income tax exemption to mothers with three children, developing a child and family-friendly support system and building a significant number of rental homes.

We all know that this guy would fling open the borders, sign up to the E.U.’s migration “pact,” and flood Hungary with hundreds of thousands of illegal third-world invaders.
No, thanks, Pete.
I am sure @mariavontheresa could explain the declining birth rate, even though we are objectively spending more than twice as much on family subsidies (in excess of 5 per cent of GDP) than on defence. Nice little article with facts and data from the Financial Times:

Yes michaell, we all know that hungary changed the illegal immigrants for the fancy word “guest worker” actually Magyar asked also for protecting EU borders in the EU meeting last week. So saved your bs for other day
No, he wouldn’t, Steiner. Hungarians are all in agreement that strong border controls are necessary and important, Peter Magyar has made his position clear in unequivocal terms. It would be completely illogical for him to adopt a pro-migration position as it’s a massive vote loser and he’s trying to get elected. It’s complete nonsense to accuse him of taking a position without any evidence to support that claim and the vast majority of Fidesz voters know Peter Magyar wouldn’t change border protection arrangements beyond bringing Hungary’s asylum system into technical compliance with EU law in order to unlock the tsunami of money parked on a bank account in Brussels, waiting for the government to lift a finger and unlock it.
He does however raise a very important point, namely, that Hungarians are increasingly giving up on having children, despite the financial incentives. Why? Because they don’t want to raise children in a country where healthcare and education is in a parlous condition, where the cost of housing is spiralling out of control, where the cost of undertaking the weekly shop leaves people breathless, where wages are only above Bulgaria in comparison with all other EU member states. Who wants to have a family in an environment like this? I wouldn’t and nor, apparently, do the majority of younger Hungarians.

Hungary will hold its election in 2026. Magyar stop making idiotic statements. You have no empirical data to prove your statement. Hungarians expect honesty from their candidates.
The same rhetoric is spouted by democrats in the US.
The question that electors should consider, is my life is worse under this administration. Has the administration a proven record to protect sovereignty, responds to the wishes of the people by using referendums and improve the standard of living.
What is Magyar’s proven record, words without proven results are bedtime stories.

I wonder if Magyar gets his information from a crystal ball, a Chinese fortune cookie or tarot cards?
