Hungary’s railway company launches gigantic station upgrade at dozens of locations across the country!

State-owned railway company MÁV is starting a HUF 15bn station renovation programme, financed by its own funds and money from the Hungarian Village Programme, involving more than 30 locations, MÁV CEO Zsolt Hegyi announced on Thursday in Esztergom (Northern Hungary).

The train station renovation programme has started in two settlements, Leányvár and Esztergom-Kertváros, and will run until the summer of 2026.

Financing from the Hungarian Village Programme will be used to construct lightweight buildings at 11 train stops, where there were no stations before or where they were demolished due to their condition.

MÁV Group will use its own resources to renew buildings, waiting rooms and toilet blocks at more than 20 locations. In most places, the station environment will also be transformed.
