Budapest Mayor Karácsony: ‘World is a better place’

“The world has become a better place after three important elections in our region,” Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said on Monday, hailing the results of elections held in Romania, Poland and Croatia over the weekend.

Karácsony talks about elections

Karácsony said on Facebook that in the second round of the presidential elections in Romania, “Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan represented Europeanness, autonomy, and so the respect for the Hungarian community in the race against the extreme right-wing, anti-Hungarian George Simion.”

“It was a huge relief to see exit polls and preliminary election results suggesting that Nicosur Dan will be Romania’s new president,” Karácsony said.

Commenting on the outcome of the first round of the presidential elections in Poland, he said “Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, my friend, represented Poland, and the parties seeking to take the country back to Europe”. Karácsony noted that Trzaskowski had won the first round, “and has a good chance of triumphing in the second round.”

In Zagreb, where the first round of the mayoral election was held on Sunday, preliminary results indicated a landslide victory of Tomislav Tomasevic, the city’s incumbent mayor, said Karácsony.

  1. Orban didn’t do himself any favours by throwing in his lot with Hungarian grave dancing football hooligan Simion for president of Romania. He now has to come up with a scheme to throw out the votes of all of the Transylvanian Hungarians who are going to vote against him in 2026. Many of those Hungarian communities voted over 95% in favour of Nicoseur Dan. It also creates a poor working relationship for Orban with winner Dan.
