Message from Brussels: Orbán should be deprived of his voting rights

MEP Guy Verhofstadt has lashed out at Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Twitter.

The Hungarian news site Index spotted the MEP and former Belgian Prime Minister’s harsh reaction to a Politico article on Social Media.

Verhofstadt’s outburst

Verhofstadt posted a screenshot on Twitter of Politico’s article “Hungary’s Viktor Orbán plays spoilsport on NATO accession for Finland, Sweden”. The picture includes the title and subtitle of the article. Although the title is relatively strong, the subtitle might cool tempers a bit, stating “Hungarian parliament set to open debate on Nordic countries’ bid to join military alliance.”

The Belgian MEP furiously added the following comment:

Hungary as Europe’s troublemaker

According to the article shared by the MEP, Hungary has gained a reputation as Europe’s troublemaker. The author goes on to add that this reputation has now been further strengthened by the inability to decide on the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO.

As we reported recently, the Hungarian parliament was due to hold a final vote on the ratification of the accession in early March. However, the vote has been postponed and now is planned to take place in the second half of March.

As Politico recalls, only Türkiye and Hungary are holding back ratification. As they write, Türkiye currently refuses to ratify the countries’ accession, claiming “that Stockholm is harboring Kurdish militants.” Hungary, meanwhile, is awaiting parliamentary approval. According to the article, Hungary, just like Türkiye, is stalling for time.

Politico has a good reason to draw a parallel between the leadership of the two countries. The Hungarian government is also holding back the vote because of its own grievances. According to the government, they have received false criticism several times from both Sweden and Finland over the past few years.

Nevertheless, Orbán recently noted that he personally is in favour of accession. But, according to him, many in his caucus do not support the ratification.

Although negotiations in the Hungarian parliament started on Wednesday this week, the vote is still a few weeks away.

  1. Orban – continues to RIGHTFULLY witnessed, inside Hungary, we know the European Europe, N.A.T.O, United Kingdom, and the United States of America and ALL country’s GOVERNED under Democracy, playing the role of a Devils Advocate – he will FALL.
Orban the damage over 13 years in Power he has done – is DOING and into the Future, if he does not FALL – Hungary – will be DECIMATED.
Orban will FALL – in Disgrace in Humiliation – sooner than later.
THe “internal” citizens pressures on him, compounded by the MASSIVE external dislike and of no respect nor TRUST of Orban – he will FALL.
DEMOCRACY – is OVER in Hungary, under the present Prime Minister of Hungary – Victor Orban.
There is no place for REDEMPTION to move for Orban, as his Savagery, repetitive attacks on the European Union, his DISCLOSURE – of the Core of his Being – that Hungary, through Orban – his Political ideas and philosophy – find themselves as a country – Humongous in deep rooted broadness and widespread Damage inflicted created by – there present Prime Minister – Victor Orban.

  2. MEP Guy Verhofstadt does not think. Russia did not feel threatened with neutral countries around its borders. Now, with all countries surrounding Russia have or will join the EU and NATO. This policy divides Europe into two opposing powers. No good could come from it.

  3. I’m half Venezuelan, half Finnish. I was born and raised in Maracaibo, South America. My family moved to Finland when I was 16. I lived and studied in Helsinki, graduated as a nurse and my life was pretty much perfect. Then came 2015. That’s the year we call invasion in Finland. Tons of illegal immigrants came to Finland via Sweden and suddenly it wasn’t as safe on the streets as before. Immigrants, mostly young Muslim guys were harassing women in subway stations, the main railway station, on the streets etc. I was one of those girls who were harassed many times. In November 2021 I made a decision, I was thinking ‘I gotta get the heck out of here’. Hungary was one of my options, but however, I ended up choosing Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. Spanish is my first language and I managed to get a decent job here, I’m working in a small private clinic as a nurse. As a city, Las Palmas is very safe, I can go out and walk around town regardless of the time of day. Sure, we have illegal immigrants here, they come here by boat from the West African coast. But the local government doesn’t want them to walk around the city, instead they are interned and their access to the city is strictly limited. The local government is doing everything they can to get rid of them, like return flights back to Africa for example. I just wanted to tell my story to you Hungarians because I understand very well why you want to keep illegal immigrants out of your country. I’ve been to Sweden countless times but nowadays Stockholm is a scary city to visit. I don’t wanna go there anymore. Finland isn’t that bad…yet. But, the immigration policy must change, otherwise Finland will be in the same situation in the future as Sweden is today. As for Finland’s Nato membership, hope you understand how important it is for Finns, because Finland has suffered from Russian attacks and occupation attempts for hundreds of years. Hungarians are an old and wise nation, I trust that you’ll be able to make the right decision. All the best to Hungary 🇭🇺 💜
