According to mno.hu, the Hungarian authorities carry out increased inspections on the border section which is not yet protected by a fence.
More and more migrants are trying to enter Hungary at the southeastern border, in the Battonya region – newspaper Magyar Nemzet was informed. They know that there are migrants who are trying to get into the country with a false passport. The authorities carry out increased inspections in the area.
Dozens of migrants are caught at Battonya and around, which is only 8km away from the Hungarian-Romanian border, every week. Local sources reported that around 20-30 migrants arrive from Romania every week. However, the influx of immigrants has only recently been strengthened in the region. People who know the area well say most of them arrive in Battonya over the green border by touching Temesvar/Timisoara through Pecska, but most of them are caught. According to unconfirmed information, there are people who are trying to enter the country with fake passports.
Mno.hu knows that authorities carry out increased inspections on the about 40km-long section of the border, and the Romanian police also makes great efforts to ensure the identification of the migrants. However, authorities have no easy task, since the terrain and the woodlands offer the migrants appropriate hiding possibilities. According to the locals, the inspection is significant especially at night; there were people who saw 4-5 military vehicles patrolling in the neighborhood. It shows the increased preparedness that cars are often stopped at Battonya and racks are checked as well, mno.hu wrote.
The Foreign Economic Relations and Foreign Minister announced in mid-September that the government decided on the construction of fences – after the Hungary-Serbia border fence –, at the Hungary-Romania border, from the Hungarian-Serbian-Romanian triple border until a “reasonable distance”.
Peter Szijjarto said the measures are important because human smugglers can change their routes due to the fence built at the Hungarian-Serbian border, so a part of the immigration pressure could have shifted to the direction of Romania. Then the processes have slowed down, according to press news, all that has happened so far after the announcement of the construction of the fence is that the route of the fence has been marked. A month after the Foreign Mnister’s press conference, not even one meter of fence has been completed at the Hungarian-Romanian border. This was said by the mayor of Kubekhaza, a settlement at the intersectionof the Hungarian, Serbian and Romanian border, to Maszol.ro portal.
