Miskolc University students in First Prize category in China supercomputer challenge
Budapest, June 16 (MTI) – A team of students from Hungary’s Miskolc University has won First Prize category award at a supercomputer world competition in China, the university said on Tuesday.
The Miskolc students were the only Europeans to enter the top 16 of the competition organised by the Asia Student Supercomputer Challenge and software company Inspur, it said. The prize puts the Miskolc team with the company of teams from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston University and the Northern University of the US, as well as the Ural Federal University of Russia.
Altogether 150 university teams from around the world competed.
David Vincze, a teacher at the Miskolc University’s IT Institute and the team’s professional leader, said the team’s achievement is outstanding because it trained for the ASC 2015 competition on a different hardware in Hungary and this required them to work up to 12-14 hours a day on end during the five-day event.
