Morocco Mohammed VI pleads for fraternal relations with Algeria
During a speech to the nation, delivered on the occasion of the feast of the throne on July 30, 2022, Mohammed VI pleads for fraternal relations with Algeria.
The Moroccan sovereign, Mohammed VI, called for “the borders” between “the Moroccan people and the brotherly Algerian people” to be “never barriers” and “turn into bridges”, during a speech at the nation, pronounced on Saturday evening on the occasion of the feast of the throne.
He pleads to “offer a fine example of harmony to the other Maghreb peoples” and “urges Moroccans to preserve the spirit of brotherhood, solidarity and good neighborliness which animates them with regard to (their) Algerian brothers”. “The allegations that Moroccans insult Algeria and Algerians are the work of irresponsible individuals who strive to sow discord between the two brotherly peoples”, also denounced the King of Morocco.
Referring to “slander”, he also assured that his country will never allow “anyone to harm” the Algerians. He thus wishes “to work with the Algerian presidency so that Morocco and Algeria can work, hand in hand, to establish normal relations between two brotherly peoples” in order to “find a way out of the current situation and promote rapprochement, communication and understanding between the two peoples”. For his speech to the nation, King Mohammed VI also evoque condition of women by displaying the desire to achieve “parity”. “The spirit of the reform does not consist in granting graceful privileges to women, but, much more precisely, in assuring them of the full enjoyment of the legitimate rights conferred on them by the law. In today’s Morocco, it is no longer possible that it is deprived of it,” he insisted. As a reminder, the feast of the throne is celebrated in the Cherifian kingdom every July 30, thus marking the anniversary of the accession to the throne of the sovereign Mohammed VI in 1999.
