New international operator to join the Hungarian taxi scene
In a significant expansion of the Hungarian taxi services landscape, Gett, a global leader in taxi services, is poised to enter the Hungarian capital’s market within the next couple of months. The move comes through a strategic partnership with local taxi service, Taxim, as part of Gett’s broader strategy to enhance its European footprint.
Gett’s arrival to the Hungarian taxi market
It is safe to say that the Hungarian taxi scene has been quite heated for the last couple of years. Now, Index reports that a new operator will arrive soon in the Hungarian taxi market. Gett, an Israeli-backed international service provider, is entering the Budapest taxi market, joining competitors like Bolt and Uber. According to Index, Gett will launch its service in Hungary through a partnership with the local company Taxim, which has confirmed the collaboration. Leaders from Taxim have shared their past successes and discussed future goals and plans.
Taxim in Hungary
According to Managing Director Péter John, Taxim has always been at the forefront of technological innovation. In 2019, they were the first to introduce app-based booking to the Hungarian taxi market. Fighting through the difficulties of the pandemic, they set out to become Hungary’s number one taxi company. Péter John told Index:
The first step in this process, in addition to continuous development, was the acquisition of Tele 5 and Best Taxi. The next step in our development is the launch of an internationally recognised and proven app. Developments are ongoing and Taxim is planned to continue under the Gett brand, so it is a much deeper partnership than the one that Főtaxi has with Uber.
Following the trends
The CEO of Taxim explained that the demand for taxi transportation in the capital is declining due to tough competition from pre-installed mobile apps used by tourists. To counter this, Taxim has decided to integrate with Gett, aiming to launch this service in the second quarter of the year. Gett is likened to Uber but primarily serves corporate clients, and Taxim aims to become the leading business taxi service in the country.
Despite the importance of an excellent app, Taxim also emphasises the need for 24/7 personal contact with passengers and customers. Currently, 70% of their bookings are made by phone and 30% through the app. However, specific details about the size of their customer base or fleet were not provided.
When can we use Gett?
While developing the app and dealing with business take time, the managing director has already revealed the possible arrival of Gett in the Hungarian taxi scene. Péter John predicts the launch in the second quarter of this year, which means that it is expected to be a few weeks or a month or two.
