New record year for Hungary’s tourism
Budapest, February 10 (MTI) – Confirming expectations, 2015 closed with a bumper year for tourism in Hungary, the economy minister said on Tuesday, commenting on fresh data. Statistics from December: guest nights in Hungary rose by 1.3 percent to 1,507,000 in December 2015 from the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Wednesday.
Mihály Varga noted that the number of guests had risen to 10,350,000 last year, a number that Hungary has never before witnessed. The number of guest nights rose to 25.7 million and hotels and lodgings recorded record revenue of 368 billion forints (EUR 120m).
Fully 1.2 million government tourist vouchers (Szep cards) were used by employees who spent 90.5 billion forints, an increase of 20 percent year on year.
Varga said it was expected that the pace of growth will be maintained in the following years.

Occupancy rates at hotels averaged 44.4 percent, up 0.1 percentage points from December of 2014.
