New sandy Danube beach opened in Budapest!
Before, the popular SHO Beach welcomed beachgoers at Budapest’s Kopaszi Dam. SHO closed unexpectedly this June, and, this weekend, Flava Kitchen & More opened a new unit, Flava Beach there.
New Danube beach in Budapest opens unexpectedly
According to turizmus.com, a Hungarian tourism-focused media outlet, the new beach is in the bay of BudaPart and mixes three functions: bar, diner and Danube beach. The “ancestor” of the place, SHO Beach, opened in 2021, but the operator announced this June that they would not open this year because they could not agree with the owner about the future.
The new operator is the Flava Kitchen & More, a restaurant in the Verno House, the 5-star hotel of the BDPST Group. The group is in the ownership of István Tiborcz, the son-in-law of PM Viktor Orbán. On the list of the wealthiest Hungarians, Mr Tiborcz is the 19th, having an estimated wealth of more than HUF 100 billion (EUR 250 million). The group continuously expands abroad, for example in Serbia.
Beach foods, cool cocktails and beach time
According to the group’s statement sent to turizmus.com, their diner at the Kopaszi Dam will follow the street style with beach foods. On the menu, there are dishes like taco al pastor, pulled pork burger and falafel bowl. HERE is the menu.
In the bar, you can taste cocktails and other quality drinks. Click HERE to check out all your options. The beach will be accessible even separately from the bar and the diner. Moreover, you may enjoy the UEFA European Football Championships and the Paris Summer Olympic Games on screens there.
The beach will be open between 10 AM and 7 PM every day. You may drop by the beach bar for a drink between 11.30 AM and 10 PM.
Water quality is not good yet
The entrance fee will not be cheap. An adult daily ticket costs HUF 2,500 on weekdays and HUF 3,000 on weekends (EUR 6.3 and 7.57). For juniors, students, 11th district residents, and office workers, discounted daily tickets are available. You may also buy an afternoon ticket after 5.30 PM without a gastro coupon for HUF 1,300 (EUR 3.3).
However, you may not bathe in the Danube, only after the authorities find water quality satisfying. That is because of the floods, which deteriorated water quality. However, during the testing period, on weekdays, the beach will be free to enter.
