New Year’s Eve programmes in Budapest you cannot miss
Musicians, racers and well-known sportsman are to show up at New Year’s event to say goodbye to 2019.
Many recreational activities await those who want to celebrate the new year, some are free and some for an entry fee. There will be special delicacies along with fireworks at midnight and outdoor concerts. Szeretlek Magyarország collected a list of their favourite events.
New Year’s rally
193 racer couples from 9 countries entered the rally which starts from Friday and ends on Sunday and is staged for the 21st time at Hungaroring. Racers come from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Germany, Finland, England as well as Hungary. The distance of the New Year’s Eve rally is 53.1 kilometres.
A special night at the College of Music
The traditional New Year’s Eve concert of Amadinda and Gábor Presser is famous for its speciality; these productions have rarely or never been staged previously or just this once, on the 31st of December. This year, the guests are János Karácsony and Sándor Födő.
Folk New Year’s at Fonó
This event is to be the most significant folk musician and folk dancer event of the year. The best folk New Year’s party of Hungary offers a large dance house.
New Year’s magician show in Budapest
Damien White performs his magician and mental show at the Magic Theatre. A great programme if you want to experience some magic before midnight.
Berlin Philharmonics at Uránia Cinema
The Berlin Philharmonics brings an American playlist this year. The band will perform An American in Paris and a piece from West Side Story. Diana Damrau will be the guest star of the night and will perform from My Fair Lady and the works of Kurt Weill and Cole Porter.
New Year’s at Budapest Operetta Theatre
Two operetta performances are organised, one at 3 and one at 7 on the last day of December. The best of operetta and musical numbers will be heard at the show.
New Year’s trotting race
The biggest outdoor sports event in Budapest and the most popular day at Kincsem Park. It became a tradition to try one’s luck at betting before heading out to the city for a New Year’s party. The highlight of the trotting race is the race of celebrities. Actors, sportspeople and celebrity get to try themselves in horse racing.
Besides, many Hungarian musicians perform at several locations in Budapest during this festive period. For example, Félix Lajkó at the Palace of Arts and many more.
