Four coronavirus patients are currently being treated with the blood plasma of recovered patients, the director of the infectology institute in Budapest’s South Pest Hospital Centre told the novekedes.hu website on Saturday.

István Vályi-Nagy told the news site that blood plasma treatment was in experimental phase, without a strictly set protocol. The four patients are in stable condition, he said.

Vályi-Nagy said underlying conditions and the patient’s age, and “probably genetic factors”, are likely to impact the course of the disease.

Regarding other drugs for treating Covid-19, he said favipiravir was effective in patients with mild symptoms, and another, remdesivir, was “promising”.
