The greatest Hungarian Medieval king to be reburied in the 2020s?
Miklós Kásler, minister of human capacities, announced weeks before that the Institute of Hungarian Research had started to analyse the remnants of János Corvin, the son of the greatest Hungarian king, Matthias I (1456-1490).
With János Corvin’s death, the Hunyadi dynasty, one of the most important families in Hungarian history, died out.
The analysis finished, and the ministry shared the results on Saturday. Based on them, researchers proved that János and Kristóf Corvin rest in the tombs of the Pauline monastery of Lepoglava. They are the son and the grandson of the Hungarian king, Matthias I. As a result, researchers could define a DNA section typical in the Hunyadi-family which means that they will be able to
find the ancestors of the Hungarian king
and tell the origins of the family.
Moreover, the breakthrough means they will be able to identify the bones of the great king in Székesfehérvár, where the remnants of the Hungarian monarchs of the Middle Ages are stored in one vault, and nobody can distinguish them.
