The youth group of Putin’s party wreathed the memorial of the Hungarian POWs by mistake
History fail – this is how one of the Hungarian news websites commented on the event. The youth group of the Russian government party (United Russia) wreathed the mass grave of the Hungarian POWs on the Defender of the Fatherland Day. However, the young activists did not remember that Hungary was not an ally of the Soviet Union in WWII, so the POWs died not because of the Germans or other invaders.
According to 444.hu, the wreathing took place near Orsk, a town not far from the Kazakh-Russian border. The activists of United Russia placed flowers at the memorial of Anatolij Puzikov (Hero of the Soviet Union) and the memorial of the Hungarian prisoners of war who died in the POW camp of the town.
The title of the action was: “Defend the memory of the heroes!”
When the media found the error, they unsuccessfully tried to erase all the photos posted on social media. Later they apologized for the mistake.

The wreath placing, OR placing of the wreaths….wreath is not a verb. It is the subject, related to the action that took place.
The PALCING OF A WREATH took place, not with bad intent, just with bad planning. Through this tactical error many people have learned something. So although very upsetting for many, it was a chance to be educated in one’s own history.
Rather than try to hide errors of judgment or actions, which only prolongs the length of time that people repeat gossip about it, best always to make a heartfelt apology, learn, and move on.
