Official: Hungarian police introduce use of body cameras
The testing of body cameras by the Hungarian police has been positive. Thus, the police are planning to use them.
Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) officers have been testing various body cameras in recent months. In response to a query from Index, the Communications Service of the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) said that the testing of the devices had been positive and that the police would introduce their use.
The National Police Headquarters reported that the Budapest Police Headquarters “has so far tested the image and sound recording devices on a trial basis.
The results of the tests have shown that the body cameras, which can be mounted on the uniforms of professional staff performing their duties, significantly support the documentation of the commission of certain offences and police actions, the transmission of real-time image and sound recordings, and the possibility of using the available recordings as evidence in procedural actions”.
“We can rightly expect that the body camera will drastically reduce the number of offences against the police,” says Police Colonel Róbert Major.
Body cameras are already in use in Hungarian prisons, with the National Command of the Prison Service currently having 17 body cameras.
