Opera to host tribute concert to pianist Annie Fischer on 100th birthday
Budapest, April 1 (MTI) – The Hungarian State Opera House will host a tribute concert to celebrate the birth centenary of world-renowned Hungarian pianist Annie Fischer on April 14.
Pianists Jeno Jando, Tamas Vasary, Ilona Prunyi and Katalin Falvai will play solos accompanied by the Solti Chamber Orchestra to commemorate the artist, who died in 1995, Vasary told a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday.
Vasary called the three-time Kossuth prize-winner Fischer “the world’s greatest pianist” and said when she appeared on stage “the spirit of the great classics came alive”.
“She spoke the language of the greats,” he said.
The concert will feature works by Schubert, Liszt, Richard Strauss, Bach, Mozart and Dohnanyi. The highlight of the evening will be Bach’s arrangement of a Vivaldi concerto in a minor for four pianos performed by Jando, Kocsis, Vasary and Falvai with the Solti Chamber Orchestra.
