Orbán: Hungarians are protecting Europe

Hungarians are protecting not just Hungary, but the whole of Europe, including Austria, against illegal migrants, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at a Hungary-Austria-Serbia migration summit in Vienna on Friday.

A total of 330,000 illegal migrants were stopped at Europe’s borders last year, 270,000 of whom were apprehended at the Hungary-Serbia border, Orbán said.

The Hungarian model is effective and is based on the simple idea that no one can enter the territory of a country until their asylum request has been evaluated, the prime minister said.

Asylum seekers can enter the country in question once their request is approved, he added.

Orbán: Hungary won’t carry out EU’s migration decisions

Hungary will not carry out the European Union’s decisions on migration; the country does not accept mandatory quotas or the obligation to build camps for migrants or “migrant ghettos”, Viktor Orbán said.

The EU decisions would involve replacing an effective Hungarian model with an “obviously non-functioning” new European model, he said at a Hungary-Austria-Serbia migration summit in Vienna.

Hungary will find the legal and political means in order to prevent Brussels’s decisions from being implemented, he said.

Orbán added that the situation was “sad” because Hungary had to protect itself not only from illegal migrants and human smugglers, but also from Brussels.

  1. I am a European citizen and I do not need nor desire Orbánistan’s protection, which by the way means Putin’s protection.

  2. PM O. has protected the rest of Europe from people smuglers by letting them go free from Hungarian jails, and for that, should Europe be grateful (?).

As a person who knows naught about how best to protect the EU from illegal migrants, why am I thinking that the EU should be paying Serbia to take care of all the migrants that end up at our southern border?

Why do I entertain the idea that the best policy might be to stop them in their tracks even before they take their first steps to leave their homeland?

  3. How was Orban “protecting Europe” when he recently released 777 convicted human traffickers some of which were released 10km from the Austrian border? They weren’t even sent back to their country of origin but simply instructed to leave Hungary within 72 hours. Orban IS the problem.

  4. I am a European citizen and I DO need and very much desire Orban’s protection. Many parts of Western Europe look like third-world dystopias where people are scared of walking around their own streets or practicing their culture and heritage (such as a Jew wearing a kipah on his head). That must NEVER happen in Hungary and, like it or not, it’s only Mr. Orban’s government that is preventing it.

  5. Mario you could live in Frankistan a country free of Orban and Poutine, but hope for you will have Allah protection.

  6. Orban take note. You have been currying favour with Erdogan in holding up Sweden’s entrance into NATO and that circus will soon come to an end. What remarks did you make about Ukraine joining NATO? What did Erdogan now say after meeting with Zelensky? Erdogan: “Ukraine deserves to have full NATO membership.” Hungary’s position within NATO and the EU is fully isolated. Orban is going to left with his pants down.

  7. Have read some moron comments here if Nato is a peace force why do they have 754 bases around the world? Its not for peace its for control of countries the wealths they are praying on for the US their goal is to destroy russia and take over their ore and oil, they started a war in ukraine better in europe than Us,with that they are ruining europe engaging russia in a endless war to the last ukrainian and fixing Eu in debth forever.

  8. Russia is a mafia state that will forever be a hole with its’ people living a dreary existence. NATO protects Europe from the Russian beasts whose leadership invades foreign countries and presently kills thousands of Ukrainians to drum up nationalistic fervour in Russia and allegiance with Putin. Russia is a failed state mired in corruption with hundreds of thousand of its’ smartest people leaving the country for a normal life elsewhere. It has no future. Anyone who thinks Russia is great needs to ask themselves who would actually want to live there.

  9. Can I remind people of the “I will build a wall and make my neighbor pay for it” story, again?

You had better really like your “wall” and willing to pay for it, yourself. Unless you consult this your neighbors and agree otherwise, of course.
