Orbán: Hungary recovers unique asset with Budapest Airport
By repurchasing majority ownership in Liszt Ferenc International Airport (Budapest Airport) “we have repossessed a unique asset, one that must not be given over to anybody but always must be preserved,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Friday in an interview to public radio.
Hungarian state acquires Budapest Airport
Orbán said that in times of war, it was in any case better to have the country’s only serious international airport under Hungarian control.
By taking the airport into state ownership, the assets of all Hungarian citizens had increased, he added.
In order to rapidly increase the value of the airport, the world’s largest airport operator France’s Vinci is involved, Orbán said.
There are further plans to involve investors from Qatar, “though we definitely want to preserve the majority”, he added.

Good move, congratulations.
Hungary had ownership of 25% of the airport but Orban sold it in 2011 for 132 million euros. Based on the 4.3 billion euro value of their deal to repurchase they are now paying 1.075 billion euros for that 25% stake which is more than 8 times as much. Fidesz squandered a billion euros on their sale and repurchase and they are financing it all with debt that Hungarians will now pay interest on for years to come. Don’t worry, Fidesz will likely later sell it to Meszaros or one of their other friends at a loss and Hungarians will continue to be the suckers of the Fidesz bandits.
Let’s see now which member of the gang will soon be given the airport for peanuts … same Orbánistan story again, on and on and on…
