Orbán’s cabinet statements deepen the crisis between Hungary and Poland

Péter Szijjártó, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said after a visit to Warsaw that Poland was living through “scandalous events”.

“If a patriotic government committed a tenth of the crimes being committed, Brussels would have launched all rule-of-law procedures at hand,” Szijjártó said on Facebook.

Szijjártó said Poland was seeing “the arrest of opposition lawmakers, political cleansing at courts, the unlawful removal of the public prosecutor, and the violent occupation of the public television”.

“Since all this is done by a government with unconditional loyalty to Brussels, no one is saying a word,” he added.

“It’s no wonder that the Polish opposition is growing stronger,” he said, welcoming the Polish opposition National Movement as part of the Patriots for Europe group in the European Parliament. “It’s a great win … that we belong to the same group and are working together against migration, for sovereignty, freedom, the protection of Christian values and families,” Szijjártó said.

He said he had an “excellent” meeting with Krzysztof Bosak, the deputy leader of the Confederation party group, of which the National Movement is also a member.

As we reported earlier, Hungary granted asylum to Marcin Romanowski, former Polish deputy justice minister, details HERE.

    • Strange, isn’t it, Michael……..that the Hungarian Foreign Minister knows exactly what is happening with the Polish government. Of course, nothing like meddling with the courts and taking over state media outlets have ever happened in Hungary. It’s all too handy to put the blame on “Brussels”. That’s getting older than blaming Soros for everything. “Brussels” is a parliament. So is Hungary’s central government. Fidesz’ problem with “Brussels” is that they don’t control it like they do at home. Nor do they rule “Brussels” by decree like they do at home.

    • Please tell us your credentials to make such a self-assured comment when it comes to domestic Polish matters. I’m sure we’d all like to know.

By the way, if the Polish electorate are dissatisfied with the Tusk government they can vote him out at the next election. But they just voted him in, so they clearly weren’t that delighted with the previous government either.

    • I live in Poland and he’s very wrong. Corruption by PiS politicians was an open secret which is why they lost in 2023. Hungary disgraced itself by giving ‘amnesty’ to Romanowski, who diverted money intended for victims of crime to political organizations.

Polish people wised up and voted PiS out of power. When will Hungarians wake up to the reign of disinformation and corruption and throw them out?

  1. Peter Szijjarto – The Orban led Fidesz Government of Hungary – there Foreign Minister and of Trade, member of the “inner sanctum” of the Orban “mob” – supporter of the DISTILLATION of Democracy in Hungary, and the growing of relationships and partnerships with Communist – Russia and China, a MAJOR “front” gofer of Orban, in the continuous attack, the LIES against the European Union.
Correct – Grumpy Oldman – being the (1) out of (27) – the “Judas” of the European Union, the “Judas” of DEMOCRACY.
The Orban led Fidesz Government, because of Fact & Truth – the KNOWLEDGE – of Orbans agenda, the Orban led Fidesz Government of Hungary – just continues to BLACKEN its reputation DEEPER – the nadir, the ABYSS they descend, just not in the European Union but in the Global World of DEMOCRACY.
STRANGE – in what I view the repentance – the “mea culpa” of Poland, returning coming back into the “fold” – there agreement to completely – COMPLY – to the Laws of Membership, in being a Member of the European Union, the Family of European Countrys – the “Goodies” they continue to rightfully receive, since there return, from “Valhalla” – in being AGAIN, a team player.
The idiotic “mindset” of the likes of Szijjarto – throughout the ‘Toxic Cultures” that engulf the Orban led Fidesz Party, there DELIVERY over the course of (16) sixteen years of Hungary, a country in “Mortal” damage mode, an Economic & Financial “tip” – and they, the likes of Szijjarto, continue on this “Xanadu” trip of BELIEF, that we Hungary – can be a STAND alone country.
Orban, the Fidesz Government – have been – the Facts and TRUTH are EXPOSED – they have been HUMILIATED and continue the deepening of there HUMILIATION, foundations built on LIES and propaganda – that CONTINUES to DAMAGE deeper the name of Hungary – our Respect & Trust.
    Repugnant.

  2. Lovely bunch I´m sure. “a far-right political party … orientated towards socially conservative and militarist stances.”

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Movement_(Poland)

Also, this party was historically close to Jobbik, and interestingly, they are not … Very pro-Russian? More like the opposite? “The Russian Federation is an existential threat to Polish interests”? “… called for banning Russia from SWIFT and stopping visas for Russian nationals”?

    https://swiatrolnika.info/informacje/krzysztof-bosak-nalezy-powtrzymac-przyznawanie-wiz-rosjanom.html

And to remind people – Mr. Szijjártó is referring to Poland´s rule of issue under their BFF´s the PiS party, which triggered an Article 7 procedure against Poland by the European Union.

    https://www.politico.eu/article/poland-rule-of-law-judicial-system-eu-pis-jaroslaw-kaczynski/

Anybody noticing that our Politicians appear to be ratcheting up the rhetoric, becoming ever bolder?

    • Bosak is part of “Konfederacja” a rag tag assemblage of rightwing groups many of which hate each other.

Bosak himself is far from the worst, especially when talking about social welfare issues… he goes off the rails on culture war issues and got in trouble for shaking the hand of Grzegorz Braun who used a fire extinguisher to put out a large menorah in the Sejm building (blasting a woman in the face in the process).

  3. Instead of criticizing with bs to Poland, Hungarian politicians should learn from them. Growing economy, migration controll, appling rule of law etc. Hungarians wont accept that the problem of Hungary is not the political wing, but pedo-fidesz

  4. Poland loses faith in Ukraine according to a new study. Outlook, Microsoft.
Poland to refit F-35 jets with better-camouflaged monochrome insignia Euronews. Countries that prepare for war will achieve their goal; countries that prepare only for defense will have peace.
Poland was fined by 320 million by EU, in spite of Tusk being their most loyal peon. Poland will lose total sovereignty under Tusk.

Hungary should not deal with Poland unless they will elect a normal leader and put Tusk out to pasture.

      • Sources? Facts? Data??? Don´t be ridiculous.

It is known! Check Facebook! Reddit! Pfff. Honestly. And please if one DOES mention sources – which is great – please enter a link. MSN, Outlook, etc. all do reference those.

So – let´s talk “trust”, “faith”. What is the reason Poland is spending so much (4.7 percent of GDP)? And Mr. Duda and Mr. Tusk (definitely neither friends nor allies) are united on this? Couldn´t possibly be He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named? Methinks Mr. Putin is a bigger issue for Poland than Ukraine.

        • Opposition to russia in general and opposition of its war against Ukraine is the closest to a non-partisan issue in Poland which is why even PiS (generally terrible) was okay in supporting Ukraine (despite some dodgy russia ties among some PiS members).
Hungary openly siding with russia and calling for Ukrainian surrender (even after Bucha and Mariupol made it clear that that meant mass killings) is close to unforgiveable from a Polish standpoint. Only a new government can patch that rift.
The de-promotion of observance of 1956 (regarded by russians as a fascist rebellion heroically put down by the USSR) is a lesser issue but shows just how far Hungary will go to please russia.
Ironically relations with Lithuania (previously generally hostile to things Polish) have never been better, so lose a friend gain a friend.

  5. Peter Szijjarto – the Hungarian Foreign Minister & of Trade, wonder WHY, being well past his DUE by date – to be “moved on” – he is a STALE politician – a worn out vinyl type record, his reputation, in Hungary and the European Union, throughout Global countrys of DEMOCRACY, devoid of TRUST & Respect, wonder why, as Victor Orban did to Mihaly Varga “outed” him as the “dud” Finance Minister of Hungary, to the role of Governor of the Central Bank of Hungary, wonder why Orban hasn’t PACKED Szijjarto’s bags – and “moved ” him on – Szijjarto ???
Besides being a GOFER to Orban – must be “other” DEEP rooted reasons.
Szijjarto – lies on, fabricates on, enters “waters” far above his intellectual ability, and continues on – DISGRACING & HUMILIATING – the name Hungary, by representation of his Orban – Fidesz Government – Ministerial appointment.
Szijjarto – muchly in, over his HEAD – a member, a BIG player, in the Toxic Culture Club – of the Orban – Fidesz Government.
