Orbán’s newest national consultation will ask Hungarians’ opinion about Ukraine

Hungarians will have a chance to express their opinion about the issue of Ukrainian grain imports in the upcoming National Consultation public opinion survey, the deputy group leader of ruling Fidesz said on Friday.

Following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine’s neighbours helped move the country’s grain exports to the poorer regions of the world, Róbert Zsigó said in a statement. But instead of the grain reaching its intended destinations, “the genetically-modified Ukrainian grain that is treated with chemicals banned in the European Union” flooded eastern European markets, causing economic and health-related problems there, he added.

“This, of course, was another issue on which Brussels failed to seek the opinion of the European public, and is to this day intent on continuing this process which is dangerous to European food safety and agriculture,” Zsigo said, adding that the Fidesz-led government will seek the opinion of the Hungarian people on the matter.

  1. As someone who has previously worked in public opinion research I can state something that should actually be quite obvious that the way any question is worded can have a large effect on the outcome of the poll. Fidesz is shameless in framing every referendum question to push for a desired outcome making them sham votes. On Ukraine and the war to defend itself from Russia Fidesz has been pushing non-stop propaganda to denigrate Ukraine and EU and US assistance while saying nothing about the war mongering of Russia and its’ evil brutality. This is because Orban is allied with Russia while playing the game to get whatever benefits he can from being a member of the EU. Putin has his hooks deep into Orban and the Fidesz party and there must be some kind of financial payoff from the Russians.
