Orbán’s political director: It’s not in Hungary’s interest to follow the West’s strategy

It is not in Hungary’s interest to follow the West’s strategy of a return to geopolitical blocs, the prime minister’s political director said at a presentation of the English-language edition of his book on Hungarian strategy, Hussar Cut: The Hungarian Strategy for Connectivity (Huszárvágás: A konnektivitás magyar stratégiája), late on Wednesday.

Balázs Orbán said the end of the unipolar world had opened the door for smaller countries to develop and pursue their own strategies on their way to success.

He warned that in the changing world order, certain political forces were working to divide the world into blocs again. This, he said, would limit smaller countries’ room for manoeuvre, as they would only be able to maintain political, economic and cultural ties with the other countries in their bloc. This, he added, went against Hungary’s interests as an open, export-oriented economy built on “knowledge and ambition”.

Hungary’s strategy

Yesterday’s book launch:

Hungary’s priority, Orbán said, was to bring in new branches of industry, identify breakout sectors for Hungarian companies and pursue a foreign policy based not on ideology, but on national interests.

The world is going through changes which Hungary can use to turn its capabilities into advantages, Orbán said.

He said that in just two decades, the world had lost faith in neoliberalism, which many attributed to the strengthening of the BRICS countries, division in the West and conflicts caused by religions.

  1. In other words Hungary opts not to be part of the West but is making itself part of the world of eastern dictatorships and mafia regimes.

  2. History has proven that anytime Hungary entered a war with supposed ally, Hungary lost.

WWI, Hungary entered the war with Austria, Germany result treaty of Trianon.

WWII, Hungary had a peace treaty with almost all nations. Germany occupied Hungary. All countries that had a peace treaty with Hungary ended up bombing the country. End result, 40 years of Soviet occupation and dictatorship.

Zelensky said Hungary is playing a dangerous game. All Hungary is trying to do is to stay out of the melee and remain neutral. Hungarians are exhausted of rebuilding all their cities. If other countries prefer war, it is their right. Furthermore, Hungary should not ship one bullet to
Ukraine because eventually Zelensky would use it against the ethnic Hungarians stuck in Ukraine. Remember, Zelensky dispatched secret service to convents, eliminated opposition, free press, etc..

Austria is also a neutral country. Why would the world not criticize Austria?

    BALAZS ORBAN WAS PERFECTLY CORRECT!!!!

  3. Mr. Balazs Orban is right, Hungary should follow its own foreign policy.

History have proven that when the country allied with foreign power during times of conflicts, Hungary always lost. WWI, Hungary entered on the side of Austria and Germany, result Treaty of Treanon.

In WWII Hungary had a peace treaty with almost every country in the world, tried to stay neutral. Result, Germans occupied the country. All countries that signed peace treaties with Hungary eventually bombed the country. End result was 40 years of Soviet dictatorship.

Zelensky says Hungary is playing a dangerous game. Zelensky is out to lunch. First, Hungary cannot really trust any foreign country. Second, Hungary is tired of rebuilding all its cities bombed by supposed allies. Supplying Ukraine by weapons that eventually would be used against Hungarian minority in Ukraine is idiotic.

If Zelensky, EU and US and to finance and fight a war that is their right but leave Hungary out of this melee.

  4. Quote:
This, he added, went against Hungary’s interests as an open, export-oriented economy built on “knowledge and ambition”.

Hungarian economics is built on factory production with cheap labour and easy access to EU market – export-oriented for sure but knowledge and ambition, not so much. Those who have knowledge and abition have left the country or are planning to leave so they can follow their ambition. Innovations happen elsewhere, production here. Unfortunately. I hope more open minded government will in the future change the situation.

  5. Let’s pretend we live in a vacuum and are a consequential country …

Without European Union Membership – we would simply economically collapse.

If we would not be a Member of NATO – well. We would have to think long and hard about our security arrangements, wouldn’t we?

Clubs have shared values, interests, and rules. Either you decide to play along, or in due time, you are potentially not longer a trusted Member.
