PHOTOS: Strong winds uproot trees, damage power lines across Hungary
Gale-force winds blowing across Hungary have brought down trees, broken tree branches and damaged power lines in numerous parts of the country, the national disaster management authority (OKF) said on Monday.
Most storm-related incidents were recorded in the western part of the country and Budapest, causing disruptions in rail traffic, the OKF said.
Power cables were damaged in Sopron, in north-west Hungary, after a tree fell on a residential building.
Uprooted trees are also blocking traffic on several major roads. In Somogy County, in the south-west, the winds brought down a tree onto the rail tracks.
Firefighters are constantly responding to calls for help concerning damage caused by the winds.
The National Meteorological Service has issued a second-degree alert for eight of Hungary’s 19 counties, forecasting storm-force winds.
A speed limit was imposed on the Kőröshegyi viaduct. In Fonyód, there was a gust of 117 km/h, trees were being uprooted:
