Teachers, students and parents held a protest march in Budapest on Friday evening demanding a wage increase for teachers and reforms in education.
The march was organised by members of the youth organisation United Students Front and it started from March 15 square as a continuation of the “live chain” protest held earlier in the day. The participants crossed Elisabeth Bridge and marched to Clark Ádám Square with police escort. Those in the front were carrying a banner that read “We are with our teachers” and chanted slogans including “No future without teachers”, “Strike is a basic right”, “We’ve had enough”, “Free country, free education” and “Silence is not order”.
Speakers addressing the crowd were students, stating that it was not sufficient to demand wage increase, but an education reform was also needed. They demanded that students’ financial circumstances should not influence the quality of education they can access.

They said they had already called on the public media to prepare news reports about their actions and give them a chance to express their views on television, and held a minute of silence as an expression of dissatisfaction.
The demands of the United Students Front were presented, including finding a solution to the problem of the teacher shortage, introducing changes to the curriculum, better conditions in schools, “paying attention to education”, restoring the right to strike and putting an end to segregation in schools. Following the speeches, a performance was presented to the participants which involved play money being thrown around, as an illustration of money being wasted by the government on unnecessary projects instead of being spent on education.

Education opens windows of OPPORTUNITY.
The continuation of protests centered on Education in Hungary, through a Government that has FAILED dismally INVESTING into Education for over a decade is RIGHT.
It is RIGHT to object, in a FREE and open Democratically run country but that in Hungary, under the Victor Orban Government, a government that is DICTATORIAL, no longer as acknowledged by the European Union and wider world, run as a DEMOCRACY, we know to object is NOT the Orban way.
Orban is getting a LOUD message growing message by citizens of Hungary – that Democracy – in its core elements the freedoms it gives to people is that we get a VOICE – and inclusive in being given a VOICE is the RIGHT that we peacefully can DEMONSTRATE orderly to objections of Governmental decisions and “other” matters that don’t rest comfortable with Citizens.
Educators – Education from what has been repetitive coming out of the Orban Government, the on-going fabrication of truth, the propaganda, the blame game on the European Union through no funding, and therefore we as a Government have NO money for pay rises to Educators or to make improvements overall in EDUCATION in Hungary – the BLANTANCY of mis-leading falseness in their DEFENCE mechanism’s – APPALLING.
Educators – Education, Students & Families – in Hungary have been extremely PATIENT till recent times allowing the DIALOGUE that has come from Education into the Government time to ACT on what has been PRESENTED to them.
That PATIENCE has LONG expired RIGHTFULLY which is why under DEMOCRACY we have “taken to the streets” in marches and massively ELEVATED increased our DEMANDS upon this Orban Government, seeking TRUTH and Fact – what exactly is the FUTURE of Education in Hungary.
The prioritization of FUNDING used and abused by this Orban Government, received from the European Union, and taxpayers’ money, its utilization – projects it has been off-set delivered for – the wastefulness in mass numbers of cases – CRIMINAL.
Education – across ALL of its componentry has received NO-Investment into its FUTURE from this Victor Orban “Dictatorial” Government of Hungary, a government who have “bleed” us dry.
This Government – an Economy that is on the edge of collapsing, rising Inflation, outrageous levels of cost of living, collapsing of Public Services and vast “other” creation of shambles this Government have created in Hungarian life, who want as they do CONTROL the media, judiciary and Rule by Decree – they WANT to CONTROL and Run – EDUCATION.
Try as they MAY but they will FAIL.
Victor Orban and his Government, the ongoing SEPARATION away from the European Union, appears matters are factually worsening to see a “middle “ground found between Hungary and the Laws of the European Union, which will CONFIRM – the likelihood of NO future funding possible NO future membership in the Family of European Countries.
This cataclysmic MESS – it ALL comes back to one name that BLAME rests heavily if not ALL on the shoulders of Victor Orban.
The FUTURE of Education in Hungary.
The billions of forints NEEDED across all of its componentry to bring it up to a 21st century standard.
WHO is GOING to FUND these Needs?
Educators, those in Senior School, in universities and “other” places of learning – thinking of careers in Education – what is the FUTURE?
Educators – it’s a VOCATION.
Democracy is DIALOGUE, but we know, that is NOT the Orban Government way.
Educators – future your FUTURE – All for the FUTURE of Education in Hungary worth THINKING about:
“When the YOKE is Broken,
the BURDEN is REMOVED.”
The Yoke – the Burden – we don’t need to be Rhodes Scholars to work out who it refers.
P.S – the read of “To Serve them ALL my Days” educators in particular should find it an enjoyable read.
