Police begin evacuating residents in Buda area due to WW2 bomb disposal – PHOTOS
Police have started evacuating residents living around the MOM shopping mall in Buda, where a bomb disposal unit will dispose of several second world war explosives.
The area is in partial lock-down, which means it cannot be approached, only left. Traffic on Alkotás Street, a main traffic artery into the capital, will be completely closed during the operation.
A public media correspondent at the scene said hundreds of police officers were evacuating residents, 520 people in total in an exclusion area of half a kilometre.
In the course of construction of the Koltai Jenő Sports Center, several types of explosive devices were found.
Normal operations are expected to resume late in the afternoon.
