“Nothing else is kept in our focus but the protection of our homeland and the Hungarian people, an approach that has disappeared from the Western political elite,” Justice Minister Judit Varga told the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Budapest on Thursday.
Addressing the event, she said that the “heart of the conservative world beating in Hungary” was a huge recognition for the election results of April 3.
In response to the approval of a new rule-of-law report on Hungary in Brussels, she said “their problem is that contrary to them, in Hungary there is real diversity of opinion in public life, the world of politics and in the press”.
Left liberals have reached a dead end because all the goals of classic liberalism had been fulfilled by the end of the 20th century and after running out of goals, they resorted to self-destructive ideologies,
Varga said. As a consequence, attention has been diverted from really important social issues, she added.
The liberal mainstream has lost its way because instead of solving people’s real problems, it is chasing utopias, she said.
“The Hungarian government understands that the only way to make good politics is by serving citizens’ demands instead of pursuing transient ideologies and foreign imports,”
she added.
Varga emphasised the need to build alliances between conservatives. “The future belongs to us but this requires tremendous effort,” she said.
