Warning: Public transport to pause briefly in Budapest on Friday

Budapest’s public transport services will come to a brief halt on Friday, 6 June, between 11:50 AM and 12:00 PM. The ten-minute pause, initiated by Mayor Gergely Karácsony, aims to raise awareness about the importance of public services.
Budapest public transport services pause
According to the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK), the stoppage affects nearly all BKK-operated vehicles. Any vehicle already en route between two stops at 11:50 AM will proceed to the next stop, where it will pause until noon. If a vehicle cannot reach a stop in time, drivers will still ensure passengers can disembark safely.
Important information for passengers during the stoppage:
- Drivers will make sure all passengers can leave the vehicles safely.
- Escalators and elevators at metro stations will continue to operate during the pause.
- Air conditioning on board vehicles will remain running throughout the stoppage.
- BKK customer service centres and ticket offices will remain open without interruption.
The following services will not be affected:
- The 100E Airport Express
- HÉV suburban railway lines
- Intercity bus services operated by the MÁV group (formerly Volánbusz)
- The MOL Bubi bike-sharing system
Passengers have been informed of the planned event in advance through announcements on vehicles and digital displays, including FUTÁR real-time boards. These messages will continue until the pause begins.

It’s worth noting that the 10-minute stoppage will not appear in official timetables or in the BudapestGO trip planner app, so travel planning may be inaccurate during this short interval.
Further details, including a list of affected lines, are available on the BKK website.
The Budapest Transport Centre thanks passengers for their patience and understanding during this brief symbolic demonstration.
