Rain of Arrows festival in Ópusztaszer – Photo Gallery
The ninth Rain of Arrows (Nyílzápor) festival was organised on last weekend in Ópusztaszer. The festival aimed at commemorating the foundation of Hungary in 896 and the battle of Pozsony in 907, alfahír.hu reported.
About 150 kilometres southeast of Budapest, the Ópusztaszer National Heritage Park is situated, which is a specific geographic location considered to be the place where Árpád (head of the confederation of the Hungarian tribes) and the seven tribes founded Hungary in 896. This is not a tourist spot to most Hungarians, but a location of national identity.
Here, at Ópusztaszer Heritage Park, the history is brought to life for thousands of visitors annually through family-oriented presentations, original costumes, and thrilling events.
The aim of the historical event is to commemorate the foundation of the Hungarian state and the battle of Pozsony (modern Bratislava), which refers to a battle fought on 4 July 907, during which a Bavarian army led by Margrave Luitpold was defeated by Hungarian forces led by Árpád.
As in the previous years, the representatives of traditional Hungarian archery gathered in Ópusztaszer so that they could show their skills to the large number of audience at this extraordinary and spectacular ceremony. The event has now gained international fame, therefore archers representing different nations, such as Transylvania, Italy, Poland, and the Czech Republic, arrived to give their parts to this emblematic festival. The spectacular Rain of Arrows show, where several archers shot arrows to the air at the same time, is the peak of the event.
Guests who had the chance to visit the festival could also try their hands in archery in the Nomadic Park, where furnished yurts, a nomadic playground, and crafts activities related to the time of the foundation of the Hungarian state could also be found.
If you feel like you would visit the next Rain of Arrows festival in Ópusztaszer based on this article, we hope that you will find the time to do so in 2016.
