Rate of population decline slowed last year
Budapest, February 23 (MTI) – Last year more babies were born while the number of deaths declined compared with the year before, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Monday.
Presenting preliminary data, the KSH said the number of births rose by 3.2 percent last year compared with 2013, while the death rate was 0.5 percent lower.
The rate of natural population decline moderated from 3.9 percent in 2013 to 3.5 percent last year.
Marriages rose by 4.6 percent year on year.
It is estimated that Hungary’s population was 9,849,000 at the end of 2014.
