A seasonal record low of -1.8°C was recorded on Tuesday in Lénárddaróc, northern Hungary. At the same time, the stunning Aurora Borealis lit up the skies over the Danube Bend. Here’s what you can expect from Hungary’s weather in the latter half of the week.

Record cold and Aurora Borealis

A seasonal record daily low of -1.8 °C was measured in Lénárddaróc, in northern Hungary, on Tuesday, the national weather service said on its website. The second coldest spot in Hungary was Zabar, also in northern Hungary, with -0.4 °C, HungaroMet said. The national average temperature early on Tuesday was 2.3 °C below average, it said.

A camera on the Prédikálószék, a peak of the Visegrádi Mountains in the Danube Bend, captured a stunning double rainbow yesterday afternoon. Later, between nine and half-past nine in the evening, “the Aurora Borealis began to glow more brightly and soon started performing a joyful dance across the sky”, Időkép wrote.
