A hoax website masquerading as an initiative driven by budget airline Ryanair has offered to transport asylum seekers lacking the proper documentation, as Europe grapples with one of history’s worst refugee crises.
The Irish low-cost airline announced that from October 12, they will let the passengers to the flights departing from Cos island, Greece, Podgorica, Bratislava and Budapest without examining their rights to travel within the EU, vs.hu wrote.
Passengers from non-EU countries, “who are subject to the European asylum” and are able to show a document according to which they would get asylum with a good chance, can sign at RyanFair desks, the airline said, but it has not been known yet what documents are involved.
The flights will depart from Cos to Frankfurt, Rome, Bologna and Milan, from Podgorica to Brussels, from Bratislava to Brussels, Paris, Berlin, Roma, Milan, Madrid and Barcelona, and from Budapest to Brussels, Copenhagen, Milan and Rome.
The rule, according to which airlines cannot transport passengers without a valid visa, is part of the Schengen agreement. If they violate this, they can receive a fine of at least EUR 3 thousand (around HUF 1 million) in each case.
Kenny Jacobs, marketing director of Ryanair said in connection with the fine that the airline will “proudly” take the costs of this violation.
