Important! Refurbishment works to begin on Thursday on Budapest tramlines 4−6

In the summer, the section of tramlines 4−6 between the Buda side bridgehead of Petőfi híd (Bridge) and Karinthy Frigyes út (Street) will be reconstructed. The refurbishment works will last from June 11 to August 5, the Centre for Budapest Transport reported on Monday.

According to 24, this section has not undergone a major reconstruction since the late 1990s. This summer, the worn-out rails will be replaced with modern ones that are easier to maintain. In this way, necessary future maintenance works could be carried out more quickly, wrote the Centre for Budapest Transport in its announcement.

From June 15, trams will take passengers on a shortened route between Széll Kálmán tér (Square) and the Buda side bridgehead of Petőfi híd. The operation of the trams will be replaced by buses on the section between the Buda side bridgehead of Petőfi híd, Móricz Zsigmond körtér (Square) and Újbuda-központ (Centre).

During the preparations (June 11−June 14) and in the third phase of the track refurbishment (July 15−August 5), replacement buses will be running between Corvin-negyed and ‘Dél-Budai végállomások’. There may be traffic restrictions in the area of Buda side bridgehead of Petőfi híd, Corvin-negyed and Baross utca (Street).

Centre for Budapest Transport added that passengers could also use metro line M4 on the section between Dél-Buda (South Buda) and the city center.
