Warning: Road closures to Budapest Airport from 2 April
From April 2024, the Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Plc. (MKIF) will start scheduled road reconstruction works on the M4 motorway junction branches near Liszt Ferenc International Airport (Budapest Airport).
Road closures to Budapest Airport
Due to the resurfacing, traffic diversions and lane closures are expected. The works will take place in several phases during April and May. Only one junction branch will be closed at a time to minimise disruption to traffic. Drivers should expect congestion and increased travel times, Budapest Airport stresses.
Before the start of each phase, MKIF Plc. will provide detailed information on where and what kind of lane closures and diversions to expect. The latest information will be published on their website and Facebook page.
First phase: 2 to 7 April
Information on traffic changes related to the renovation will also be shared on the Budapest Airport platforms. The first phase is expected to start on 2 April and will last until 7 April. During this period, the exit ramp from the M0 motorway to the airport will be closed.
It will not be possible to exit from the M0 motorway: you will have to continue on and turn around at the double roundabout at the Market Central shopping centre, and you can exit to the airport from the direction of Budapest.
It is recommended to check the traffic situation before approaching the airport in the coming weeks and to depart on time. Diversions and closures may also affect the time taken to reach the airport by car and public transport.
